Awareness/Advocacy Campaign
2. Program against Sexual Abuse/Rape .
“My uncle frequently used to touch in my sexual organs when I used to be alone. “ My math teacher used to keep his hand on my back and touched my inner dresses” Chhori board members goes back to their past to share their unhappy days. These experiences are common experiences of Nepali girls.
3. Creating safer environment during menstruation to women and girls:
“ I didn’t know what was going on my body when I was bleeding for the first time” . I was kept in a dark room during my first menstruation and each menstruation is painful for me” we can get these experiences from most of the girls of Nepal. It is necessary to address this situation and make the girls happy by creating better environment.
• Preparation and building team of change makers: The girls and women should start transforming the existing situation by themselves. So we build the network of change makers from overall districts of Nepal.
• School awareness classes: The national and international volunteers will regularly conduct the class on the menstruation. Currently it is conducting these classes in the schools of Kathmandu metorpolitican city. In future it will continue the same activities in other districts.
4. Program to change public attitude towards entertainment workers and to advocacy for policy change:
The girls are compelled to migrate in search of work in the city in their young age. Because of the broken family, domestic violence and not having access to education as well as poverty of the family they are moving in the city. However they are not aware that they may reach in the situation of abuse and exploitation when they come to city to work. So the compulsion behind them should be understood and they should be supported to change their existing situation.
5. Safe Migration program to women: :
“ I am planning to go for foreign employment whatever risk I may have to bear because I am always at risk though I am here being an entertainment workers” shares one of the board member of Chhori. Women in the process of migrating for job are at risk of abuse, exploitation and trafficking each day. Women who are working in entertainment sector are in more vulnerable condition and risk of unsafe migration. It is necessary to create better environment during migration for them. Chhori conducts the awareness class to the entertainment workers for their safer migration for foreign employment.
6. Program on Reproductive Health Rights of women:
“I don’t want to be pregnant again” but I have to be for my family’. Most women have to reach in this kind of conclusion and have next baby without their interest. In the expectation of son they have to abort the girl child and are in compulsion to give the boy child. Similarly the girls and women are facing problems of reproductive health problems a lot. Unless we can’t make the women free from these all kinds of reproductive health problems we cannot assume that women will enjoy their basic human rights. So Chhori will initiate to address the overall reproductive health problems of women.
